Four dirty areas that could probably use some cleaning
In the average household, there's an ebb and flow of people, objects, pets, and of course dirt. All this traffic inevitably results in accumulated grime and bacteria. Over time, most people are quick to clean the obvious stuff; the spill on the leather ottoman or dust bunnies on the TV screen. But some other objects see even more use, yet receive very little cleaning attention. We have included four items in your home that may be well overdue for a good cleaning.
1. Light switches. You use them all the time, day after day, and yet not many people remember to clean the light switches in their home. They may not look dirty, but the accumulated bacteria from the many different hands that touch each switch can easily make you sick. The safest and healthiest thing is to disinfect them once every couple weeks. Simply wipe your light switches down with an antibacterial cloth for easy sanitation.
2. The kitchen drain. With all the water running down it, it's got to be clean, right? Unfortunately, food that goes down the drain can build up and cause unpleasant odors in your kitchen. But cleanup is a snap. You can pour hot water with baking soda down the drain for a quick odor fix, or cut up a lemon and run the garbage disposal for a fresh citrus scent. You can even use ice cubes to help dislodge anything solid that's managed to get stuck in there.
3. Doorknobs. Just like your light switches, doorknobs get so much use and so little cleaning. An occasional wipe with soap and water or an antibacterial cloth goes a long way towards keeping you and your loved ones sickness-free.
4. Your computer keyboard. This may come as a surprise to you, but computer keyboards tend to have even more bacteria on them than the average toilet seat. This is mainly due to the fact that toilets get cleaned regularly, while keyboards can go years within a cleaning. Do yourself a favor, and gently wipe down your keyboard with an antibacterial cloth. You can also use an air canister to blast our any grime that's found its way between the keys before you wipe everything down.
